MÉD. PATHOL., ZOOL. Clignotement des paupières, normal chez les animaux aux yeux à membrane nictitante et pathologique chez l'homme. Tic de nictation. ,,Tic consistant en un clignotement trop fréquent des paupières`` (Méd. Biol. t.3 1972).
Prononc.:[]. Étymol. et Hist. 1814 (NYSTEN). Empr. au lat. nictatio «clignement d'yeux»; cf. angl. nictation «id.» (1623 ds NED).
